Valentina – S E Lynes

When Glasgow journalist Shona McGilvery moves with her partner Mikey and their baby to an idyllic cottage in rural Scotland, they believe that all that lies ahead of them is happiness.

But with Mikey working offshore, the frightening isolation of the Aberdeenshire countryside begins to drive her insane…

That is, until she is rescued by a new friendship with the enchanting Valentina.

She has the perfect home, the perfect man, and a charismatic new best friend – or does she?

As her fairytale life begins to unravel, the deep dark wood becomes the least of her fears…

A hauntingly intelligent, addictive psychological thriller from debut author S. E. Lynes.

The excitement around this book is contagious, seriously I can not recommend it enough. I have just lived with Shona McGilvery through a whole year of her life and I am exhausted, hurt, deceived, betrayed and finally broken but rise with strength and courage and satisfaction.

From the end of the very first sentence I was entranced, S E Lynes had woven her spell and pulled me deep into her words with no way of escape and for that I was eternally grateful because this book won my heart and will certainly make my top ten for 2016.

The writing is engaging, deep but yet crystal clear, the characters jump from the pages shouting to be heard showing us a stretch of emotions from isolation to devotion wanting to seen above the next, better than the former. The descriptiveness is beautiful, the scenery visual the story extraordinary.

I was gripped, I endured, I didn’t have a clue and I survived it all. This book is something else. Something unique and passionate. It needs to be shared. S E Lynes deserves the praise.

I can’t wait for more. I will truly miss Shona McGilvery.
